Beneficiaries receive your SIPP tax-free if you pass away before 75; after 75, they're taxed at their rate.
Most UK pensions can't deal with, or don't understand non-UK residents and their needs. An International SIPP will be able to offer the flexibility and tax knowledge required for non-UK residents to get the most out of their UK pension.
The tightening of rules around Qualifying Recognised Overseas Pension Schemes (QROPS) has made them less favorable for many non-UK residents. Here’s why:
QROPS benefits are fully available only if you've been a non-UK resident for over five tax years. Accessing your pension within this period can lead to significant tax issues.
While Brexit hasn't changed the fundamental rules of UK pensions, it has introduced uncertainties, especially regarding the tax implications and recognition of QROPS across borders.
With few exceptions, a UK pension must be moved to the same country in which you live - this may be impossible since that country's local pension rules may be incompatible and even when it is possible it may not offer any advantages.
QROPS providers must report to HMRC for ten years after the transfer, increasing the administrative burden and potential for tax charges on unauthorised withdrawals. This makes QROPS usually much more expensive than a UK SIPP.
Transfers to QROPS may incur a 25% tax charge unless certain conditions are met, such as both the individual and the QROPS being in the European Economic Area (EEA) or if the QROPS is provided by the individual’s employer.
